Henry's Farm Update, 3-23-20
Hi folks,
Henry here with your weekly farm update.
Grammy and Grandpa have geese at their house. I like to walk up the pond bank to watch the pair, but it’s tough to get near them: when I walk on the grass to one side of the pond, they paddle across the middle to the other. When I walk back around, you guessed it: they gracefully paddle out of reach again. The dang things are elusive with their floating, but they sure are fun to watch.
You can imagine my excitement, then, when Dad surprised me on a warm day last week. He rooted long wooden poles out of the barn and flipped over a metal igloo that’s been sitting near the water’s edge for my entire life. Guess what? IT FLOATS! We could paddle around on the pond like geese!
At first I was a little shy about the idea, but genuine toddler curiosity kept me focused. Soon enough I was laughing as Dad pulled on the oars and we sped back and forth. Grammy and Grandpa came up and I got to wave at them from the middle of the pond. The whole experience was so cool I almost forgot about the geese. Now we could finally get close!
…or not. When I looked, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Dad and I were paddling in the pond, and the geese were walking on the grass from one side to another, staying just out of reach…
Happy, happy Monday, everyone! Remember to keep paddling out there. When a deluge of information makes us worry we start to drift, and when we’re drifting we get tangled up in the cattails. Turn off the information and keep paddling.
Check out the geese when you come to the Beef Barn this week.
See you at the farm!
