Henry's Farm Update
Hi folks,
Henry here with my weekly farm update.
Yesterday we celebrated Aunt Kate’s birthday. She’s SUPER old now, so Grammy decided to assign numerical values to each candle that equal Kate’s age rather than risk burning up the Angel Food with a conflagration of individual wicks. I was allowed to help blow out the flames and, in the process, added a layer of spit ‘icing’ to the cake. It was delicious.
My life wouldn’t be complete without all of these people in it. Relationships are the only aspect of life that deliver true joy to our existence, a reality easily forgotten as we grow up and get distracted by goals, money, and material things. Indeed, only a child is immune to such worldly corruption, so it’s good that I’m here to set an example of what it looks like to enjoy simply being. I’m happy with this group no matter where we are and what we have.
It makes me think about food. There’s a realm that’s totally lost the relationship component, replaced instead with arbitrary extravagance, one-dimensional convenience, and total ambiguity. I’m happy that my family brings relationship back into the food discussion, because a network of people united by a common good is a joyous group to know. It doesn’t matter who is where with what, we can all eat united and live better for it. What a gratifying experience.
It is for the relationship factor, friends, that we work today and anticipate tomorrow, no matter what it brings, because with each step forward we know we have hundreds of families walking right beside us to make the journey joyous. Cool.
Enjoy the week. Maybe we’ll meet in the Beef Barn!
Sincerely,
Henry Port
