Henry's Farm Update, 1-20-20

Hi folks,

Henry here with your weekly farm update.

A farm is like a giant flywheel – it takes a lot of effort to get it spinning, and then the weight and velocity keep things turning through many, many years.  Each generation teaches the next how to push, and the overlap of generations adds strength to the core.  It’s a pretty neat system.

My dad tells me that a lot of farms are struggling to find hands to push; their flywheels are slowing down.  He says it’s because all those hands have moved away from the hard work of production agriculture in search of more financial stability.  The world doesn’t have fewer hands, it’s just that all those hands are busy at the wrong things.

In our opinion, the best way to get more hands on the farm is to include everyone in our immediate community.  Do you know that buying beef from our farm sustains three generations of farmers all at once?  My Grandpa, the idea guy who stabilizes every situation; my dad, the food obsessed marketer; and me, the cow-loving cat-chasing puddle-stomping foreman of every task on the property.

We’re your boots on the ground, and you are the extra hands we need to keep things rolling.  Each of you is pushing to keep this flywheel spinning so that future generations of your family can enjoy productive, interactive, food producing green space from which to source sustenance.  In other words, we’re all working together.  Isn’t that neat?

Thank you for pushing along with us, friends.  We wouldn’t want to take on this world without you!

See you at the Beef Barn!  We’re well stocked with all of the steaks, roasts, and ground beef you could possibly hope for on a January day.

Sincerely,

Henry Port
